Planning When To Visit Bhutan
Busy Season - The traditional tourist season in Bhutan is March to May and September to November. These months offer the most pleasant temperatures, clear skies and several major festivals. It's a very good time to visit Bhutan.
However, the downside is that the attractions are busier, it's difficult to promise the best hotels and you will see many foreigners at every festival and temple. Less-Busy Season - If you're looking for a more exclusive experience, Amitabha recommends that you visit in the less-busy seasons. These seasons include November through February when the weather is colder, but the skies crystal clear. The benefits greatly outweigh the chill. During this season, we can visit several of the lesser-known festivals and you may very well be the only foreign visitors present. Plus, we can promise the best hotels and services everywhere we go. It's also much easier to get flights during this time. A guest to Bhutan commented, "We traveled through Western and Eastern Bhutan for the entire month of January. We saw snow only once, got to see the mountains everyday and were the only foreigners at the festivals we visited. Each night we enjoyed rooms warmed by wood-burning fireplaces. I highly recommend it." - N. Ward, USA Summer Season - Amitabha also offers journeys during the summer monsoon season, June through August. Typically during the summer, the mornings are blue and very pleasant. Rains usually come during the afternoons and nights. During this season, we plan our hikes, outdoor activities and photography sessions in the mornings and visit temples, monasteries and museums in the afternoons. During the summer season, we tend to limit our driving time. The Himalayan roads are fragile and prone to landslides. Traveling during the summer requires a little more flexibility, but again rewards you with a more exclusive Bhutan experience - few crowds, local festivals, good hotels and excellent service.
